Interview with Ashlie
What’s your role on your PCL team?
- I’m a backspot for Golden State Grit for the one and only all-girl group on the team! I’m known for being strong, steady, and always having my flyers’ backs — literally. My specialty is making stunts feel safe and solid, while bringing lots of energy, positivity, and hype to the team. I’m known for being a power stunter and the girl even the guys can rely on! If you hear someone cheering the loudest on the mat or keeping the vibes fun, that’s probably me!
What’s one moment from tryouts or training that made you think, “Wow, this is the pro level”?
- There was a moment at tryouts that honestly didn’t feel real. I was the only all-girl backspot there, and we kept hitting the stunt back-to-back in a difficult stunt sequence that was clean and confident. Even though the group that was at tryouts was small, the energy in the room was unreal. It clicked for me right then: this is the pro level. The expectations were higher, the focus was sharper, and everyone trusted each other immediately. It felt so cool, so empowering, and honestly a little surreal. I remember thinking, “this is exactly where I’m supposed to be.”
What skill or element are you most excited to hit this season?
- I’m honestly excited for so many parts of this season, but if I had to choose, I’d say the all-girl trick game, the endurance game, and of course, our actual routine. The trick game really shows off creativity and stunt difficulty, the endurance game pushes you mentally and physically in the best way, and the routine is where everything comes together: the skills, the teamwork, the energy. I can’t wait to hit the floor with my team and bring it all to life.
What’s one fun or unexpected fact about you that fans would never guess?
- One fun fact fans might not expect is that this is only my second time ever being on a co-ed team. I’ve spent most of my cheer career on all-girl teams, and I’m usually an all-girl girl through and through, so this has been a really exciting and empowering change for me. Another surprise is that I’m one of the oldest athletes on the team, which I honestly love. I get to bring experience, leadership, and big-sister energy into the room, while still pushing myself, learning new things, and keeping up with everyone. It’s been really cool to show that age is just a number and that you can keep growing, evolving, and loving this sport at every stage, and becoming a Pro is the ultimate dream for me, and I can’t wait to show everyone who Grit is!
What’s your message to fans as we head into the first PCL season?
- My message to the fans is simple: get ready. This first PCL season is going to be something really special. You’re going to see the heart, the athleticism, the grit, and the passion that GSG cheerleaders put into every single moment. We’re making history, and having your support means everything to us. So bring the energy, cheer loud, and come along for the ride, because Golden State Grit is just getting started, and we can’t wait to share this season with you.
